Sign Language and Zoo Phonics with Ms Brooke - Friday 9/25 @ 10:15 am

Thank you so much for registering to one of our core curriculum classes and Little Knights.

Sign Language and Zoo Phonics
Ages: 24 Months - 5 Years

Why learn American Sign Language? With just a few signs, you can communicate with your baby or toddler! Sign language helps reduce tantrums and increases vocabulary.  Learning even a few signs can help build a bridge and make a new friend!  Ms. Brooke has been teaching Baby Sign and ASL for over 12 years at Camelot Kids Preschool and Little Knights in Los Angeles, CA to kids ages 1 to 6 years old during their most formative years.  It is her greatest joy to see her students learn and laugh!  Her classes are full of songs and stories to help reinforce the signs we learn! Come sign with us!

Much love,

Brooke Le Clear
Sign Language & Zoo Phonics Lead Teacher

SENSORY PLAY w/ Ms Heidi - Starting in October Monday PM's, TBD

Picture

Dear Parents,

Attached is the materials list with an estimated cost breakdown, which includes everything needed for the four (one month) classes in total.

A few notes:

1. You'll see many items listed below are most likely already at home.

2. Parents should understand that the class requires advanced preparation (i.e. we won’t be dyeing rice in class because then the children are not able to play with it as it needs time to dry). I will include instructions for how to make these activities once they sign up for the class.

It’s also important that parents get this as an opportunity to be creative with their kids in terms of what they decide to put in the bins. Personally, I think it’s most fun if parents do it separately because the “surprise” factor is one of the best parts for kids in a sensory class.

3. The majority of these items can be found easily and most affordably at the Dollar Tree or 99 Cent Store.  If you rather not actually go there or if you are not able to find certain things at those places (I’ve found availability can vary from store to store) then I can also recommend Walmart, Michael's, and, lastly, Amazon. Michael's and Amazon will be the most expensive but convenient of the five options therefore the price of everything varies.

4. I'll offer parents a few options and flexibility in terms of what materials they choose to use during class week-by-week based upon their comfort level.

For example: one of the classes will involve a “veggie garden." If their child is new to sensory play or has issues with textures, I’ll suggest they start off with colorful rice or colorful paper shred as their base material. If they’re more open to messier play, they can use a mixture of hot chocolate powder, flour, and cinnamon to put their veggies in “dirt.”

Feel free to let me know your thoughts.

Thanks!

Ms. Heidi

My family became enamored with a British YouTube show called TaskMaster. Hosts are challenging families to clever creative stay-at-home tasks. Participants then post short videos to Twitter #hometasking. Watch Miss Peggy’s 9 seconds of YouTube fame and get in on the fun! (Have to watch to the end for my family’s contribution.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AZmEEyNt_U&feature=youtu.be
The TaskMaster show really is our best discovery of quarantine. Start with Season 4 if you are a fan of British Bake Off. My husband is also sharing #hometasking idea with the Getty in order to inform Education Department’s work during this time. They are trying to adapt the methodology with an eye towards using the permanent collection as an inspiration. While I know there is no need for the children to participate in more screen time, I highly recommend #hometasking as a source of silly creative family-bonding fun.
